In a decisive showdown against CSK on May 10th, IPL 2024 witnessed GT’s skipper Shubman Gill incur a hefty Rs 24 lakh penalty for the team’s sluggish over-rate. Despite the fine, Gill’s leadership propelled GT to a resounding victory over the defending champions, with his stellar century setting the stage for triumph right from the opening partnership.

In a significant showdown during IPL 2024 on May 10th against CSK, GT’s captain Shubman Gill incurred a hefty Rs 24 lakh fine for the second instance of his team’s slow over-rate this season. The Board of Cricket Council (BCCI) issued a statement confirming the penalty, amounting to 25% of Gill’s match fees, for breaching one of the newly emphasized and crucial codes of conduct.

In addition to Shubman, the entire GT Playing XI and the standout performer against CSK will also be subject to a fine equivalent to 25 percent of their match fees or a flat fee of Rs 6 lakh, whichever is lower.

As per regulations outlined by both the BCCI and IPL, a franchise captain faces a one-match suspension if their team is found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate in three matches within a season.

“Under the IPL’s Code of Conduct concerning minimum over-rate offenses, Gill’s team incurred its second offence of the season, resulting in a fine of INR 24 lakh for him. Each member of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, faced an individual fine of either INR 6 lakh or 25 percent of their match fees, whichever amount is lower,” stated the BCCI/IPL.

Batting first after CSK won the toss, the GT duo propelled their team to a formidable total of 231 runs. Shubman’s blistering 104 off 55 balls, coupled with Sudharsan’s explosive 103 off 51, unleashed a relentless assault on the CSK bowling attack.
